“A line is a point in motion.” Paul Klee
p u l s e ~ p a t t e r n s is the name of a new collection
of chromatic patterns designed by Luanne Stovall. Each pattern
embodies a core aesthetic philosophy grounded in recognition
of the interconnected dynamic forces coursing through all
matter. They grow out of a conviction that there is no negative
space, that color is a sensation of light, and that sensual
pleasure is an essential ingredient in a full embrace of earthly
life.
The patterns trace their origins to simple line drawings.
Loosely knit webs evolve as layers of these spontaneous drawings
are woven together into a kind of flexible loom, or grid.
As stanzas of similar pulse lines sweep across the planes,
an individual line records traces of its own unique emotional
path in its fluid journey from one point to the next.
The patterns can be fitted with multiple chromatic palettes
or colorways which echo rituals and rhythms embedded within
our seasonal cycles. A given colorway strikes a chord composed
of three to five orchestrated colors. A shift in palette signals
a new colorspace operating within the web of a particular
grid.
New p u l s e ~ p a t t e r n s designs can be realized in
many diverse materials ranging from fabric, to glass, to floor
and wall and ground treatments, thereby allowing the patterns
to celebrate an embrace of organic life inside and outside,
in public spaces and private settings. |
