This project presents a sequence of twenty four 9” x 6” coloraid cutouts. Each hour of the day is framed by its unique conditions of time and place. Each portrays an elastic moment ~ a snapshot of the protagonist, a male cardinal, as he engages in his daily activities. The cardinal’s form echoes a drop of blood, a tongue of fire, a teardrop.

Like all of us, the small red bird must inevitably confront hardships. But he knows to engage in the spell of the moment, savoring particularities of this patch of earth or that swatch of sky. In the course of one day, he will rest, gaze at flowers, sing his songs, serenade the sunset, dodge flying leaves, bathe in soft moonlight, and usher in the rising sun ~ the enigmatic master of ceremonies.
