  paintings

Until a couple of years ago, the narrative in my work, rooted in the practice of painting, was spun from recognizable images. Recently, I learned to dismantle this structure and found another more direct narrative concealed just beneath the surface of its skin. This underlying web is composed of a loose network of varying handmade lines, each recording the emotion of its particular journey. These responses are continually encoded in the physical tracks of elastic wavelength lines, loop-de-loops, color spaces, and light.

The paintings are representative of a recent body of work identified as pulse~patterns. Each pulse~pattern, synthesized with waves of gesture lines and color chords, acknowledges the natural rhythms of interconnected dynamic forces coursing through all matter. A chromatic palette or colorway, fitted to a given pattern, inevitably echoes seasonal shifts.

Pulse~pattern grids celebrate a formal order where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. This key infrastructure must provide a generous flexibility to allow an individual component the freedom to mark its variable place within the overall continuum. There is no negative space or definitive boundary to isolate inside from outside in this haptic zone ~ an elastic fabric where, ultimately, everything touches everything else.
