Look Up And Look Forward
Welcome to my new site!
I’m delighted to finally be sharing a project I’ve been working on all spring, a full web overhaul presenting a more complete picture of my professional life than I’ve ever painted in cyberspace.
As my work in design and color theory expands and evolves, I wanted to make sure my core practice as an artist stays center stage. The portfolio of galleries featured on the homepage includes both current projects and retrospectives dating back to the late 1970s. Previously, I’ve omitted older works like Domestic Interiors, Elastic Moments, and Monologues because they represent a pictorial strategy I dismantled in 2002, when I flattened the picture plane, banished the humans, and bid adieu to western perspective. These days, I’m appreciating new resonances between these disparate phases of my career, so they’re all represented here, in (roughly) reverse chronological order.
I’m also proud to highlight another one of my central passions on the site—my work to promote a more synthetic, inclusive approach to color and color literacy that spans many different disciplines, from the sciences of perception and color psychology to art, film, fashion, architecture, and much more. I’ve got pages on my New Color courses, a resource guide of books and multimedia I love to use with my students, and an updating feed of color events. (I’m even working on a “color manifesto” that I hope will be ready to share this summer!)
To assist with this daunting task, I teamed up with Ross Robertson, a master wordsmith who collaborated on the overall design and guided the written content. (Tip to fellow artists: consider hiring a writer with serious bonafides in editing and communication. A sharp eye for design doesn’t hurt!)
A couple more heads ups . . . under the “About” heading, you’ll find a new biography, as well as a press page featuring interviews, news stories, and a fun fact sheet. There’s also a projects page of related endeavors, including my newly-formed company LU+CO Studios. If you’re so inclined, please sign up for my mailing list in the footer. As I ramp up my virtual activities (with a big kick in the pants from our friend COVID-19), I plan to start blogging a lot more, and I’ll send out periodic updates to keep you abreast.
I hope you enjoy this new window into my world. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions, ideas, or proposals! I look forward to collaborating.
Yours in color,
Luanne
