Color Literacy

Color is the face of the world. A phenomenon of light, a mental construct, a tapestry of symbolic meaning—color is deeply woven into everything we do.

Of all our senses, humans favor vision. More than 50% of our brain is dedicated to processing visual information. Colors are emotional triggers, and dense networks of color codes course through our lives every day. From blue skies and green leaves to strawberries and stop signs, color signals beauty, danger, and everything in between.

Fluency with the visual language of color sharpens our senses, expands our perceptions, and enhances our ability to communicate. In the 21st century, color literacy is a multidisciplinary ecosystem of connections between art, science, industry, technology, and culture.
