Garden Snapshots

Acrylic and oil on canvas
2009–2011

Sunflowers are like people to me.
— Joan Mitchell

In this series, four paintings are set in a small garden plot. Each features the same “doodle bloom” created by projecting a small one-liner drawing onto the canvas. The bloom is viewed at sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight. An overlapping grid of sweeping lines represent the energy of a specific moment in time. There is no “negative space.” Every shape contributes to the whole.
